1966年生於英國牛津,保羅.瑟曼以獨特的電子傳訊藝術(Telematic Art)聞名國際。1991年自瑞丁大學取得美術碩士學位,並於同年以《現在考慮一下人民吧》超媒體裝置藝術,榮獲奧地利林茲電子藝術節互動藝術類金尼卡大獎。1994年,又以遠距錄像裝置作品《遠距離的夢》贏得洛杉磯互動媒體藝術節斯帕基獎。1993至1999年間,他受聘為德國萊比錫大學視覺藝術學院媒體藝術講師;於擔任教職期間,他仍持續進行互動傳訊的裝置藝術創作。而自1997年至2001年間,瑟曼於奧地利林茲藝術與工業設計大學擔任表演與環境客座教授。2000年起,在與曼徹斯特索耳福大學的合作下,主要以日漸滲透擴張的電訊環境領域作為研究主題。同時瑟曼不斷接受各美術機構委託創作,並於2006年應邀擔任台北國際藝術村駐村藝術家。
Paul Sermon
Born in Oxford, England, 1966, Paul Sermon is noted for his unique telematic art. Received MFA degree at the University of Reading, England, 1991, Paul Sermon was awarded the Prix Ars Electronica “Golden Nica”, in the category of interactive art, for the hyper media installation “Think about the People Now” in Linz, Austria, at the same year. In 1994, he received the “Sparkey Award” from the Interactive Media Festival in Los Angeles, for the telepresent video installation “Telematic Dreaming”. From 1993 to 1999 Paul was employed as docent for media art at the HGB Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany. From 1997 to 2001, he was also employed as guest professor for Performance and Environment at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz, Austria. Since June 2000, based at the University of Salford in Manchester, he has been working primarily within the research field of immersive and expanded telematic environments. During this time, Paul Sermon has been continuously commissioned by art institutions, and has been invited to act as the artist-in-residency at Taipei Artist Village, 2006.
