The Other Place

In the film works of Japanese artist Hiraki Sawa, airplanes, horses and Ferris wheels constantly appear. The subject matter is part of childhood dreams, yet it is frequently set in private households, triggering everyone’s imaginations, allowing daydreams full of childlike delight to run wild, and acting out a dreamscape beyond reality.

Sawa has chosen to work with children, accessing their exuberant flights of imagination to create make-believe vehicles that could be ridden in the Taipei Children's Recreation Center. Just like a ride in an amusement park, Sawa uses imaginary objects to create a paradise belonging to kids. The artist then personally transforms these objects and settings into animation. The film will take place in the park and the interior of a house. Objects and places are the main characters of Sawa’s film, in which a subtle relationship between the two is set in motion, and greater elements of imagination are allowed to arise. In November, this young artist will invite the public to the Taipei Children's Recreation Center, and create a childhood dream, alive with motion.
